So Emma meddles in the lives of her friend, Harriet Smith; Mr. Elton, the eligible vicar; Mr. Martin, the young farmer; and others close to her. Although author Jane Austen was aware of politics and current events, she wrote instead about the humanity she witnessed in society around her, which for her was enough.
